DESIGN IMPACT PROJECT
One of the ideas discussed during this design workshop is a tool that would provide students with opportunities and connect them with classmates based on their interests. These interests would be decided by analyzing the students' submitted projects or through a survey they complete. In order to better illustrate how this tool might affect a student’s experience with the system, I created the following storyboard. This 4 panel storyboard illustrates a young student who is interested in fashion. She is notified of an opportunity to attend a fashion-related event with a classmate who has similar interests, and the two becomes close friends who pursue this interest together.
To create this storyboard, I first sketched out each panel in pencil, and then used illustration markers to finalize the lineart. I then scanned this image and used Adobe Photoshop to add shading and cleanups if necessary.
Creating this storyboard allowed me to visualize the emotional impact a piece of technology can have on a user. I realized that presenting an idea in this way is important for understanding its possibilities. Without methods such as storyboarding, the potential of a design may never be realized.

Being a part of the Technology for Social Good Research and Design lab, I was able to take part in meetings with the Cyberlearning team, during which we often took part in design exercises surrounding the online social learning network iRemix. One of these exercises required lab members to brainstorm ideas for the system that would facilitate the online support role of brokering. To better visualize some of the ideas from this workshop, I created the storyboard and interface designs shown below.
